The C5 villarissue revolves around allegations that then Senate President Manny Villar used the power of his office to benefit his company and so-called amass up to 200 million pesos (roughly 4.5 million dollars). Investigations were conducted and Villar was cleared of all the charges. That was two years ago. Now, the old allegations are surfacing again and the media is presenting them as if they are new. Instead of anticipating an effect similar to the American “October Surprise”, their desperate moves are harming their candidate. – see C5 villar controversy.

In America, the “October Surprise” refers to a news event with the potential to influence the presidential election. They call it so because American presidential elections are held in November. During the 1980 US presidential election, Reagan was anxious that if the American hostages in Iran are freed before the election, Carter would win. That anticipated event if actualized would be the October Surprise and change the course of history. In the 2000 US presidential elections, Bush was almost crushed by the October Surprise when a police report surfaced about his DUI (Driving Under the Influence) incident some decades earlier. The crucial evangelical vote did not show up. Luckily for him, he won Florida. Just two years ago, people were talking about Obama’s “foreign” birth certificate as a possible October Surprise.

If the Liberal Party thinks that the C5 Villar Issue would be the “April Surprise”, they are just plain wrong or stupid. American parties have mastered that concept for hundreds of years. Every time they go to elections, they calculate the exact time they release the items to change the course of the elections. I say that Liberal Party is ill-advised and its use of the C5 villar issue is a sign of desperation. However, there is one item we can say is a good “April Surprise” – the Noynoy Psycho Test Results.
